Augustine Sorie-sengbe Marrah is an activist lawyer, a leading human right practitioner, democracy enthusiast and a rule of law campaigner. He is regarded by many as an anti-establishmentarian, a constructive social deviant and a dogged non-conformist to political sterility. He was a founder and Chairman of the Renaissance Movement (Sierra Leone), a once leading social movement for two consecutive years . His journey in human right and social justice activism started about a decade ago after a short stint at the Special Court for Sierra Leone in 2009. The following year, he obtained a Masters in Human Rights Law and Democratization from the University of Pretoria’s leading centre on human right education in Africa. That was the dawn of his burgeoning interest in issues of democratic governance, rule of law and human rights. Over the past few years, Sorie-sengbe has written on ranging issues bordering on good governance, the rule of law, judicial justice and his oft-satirical pieces on social issues. These writings inspired this blog on his 10th anniversary as a lawyer! Sorie-sengbe hopes that this blog would be a useful platform for activism as he continues to speak up on behalf of the un-voiced and to write about the issues hidden away from the spotlight of action. You’re invited to sojourn with him as he confronts human and socio-political wrongs in our society for the sake of our individual and collective human rights and the sanity of our democracy.
